Ollie Esplin, a cornerstone of Thaba Adventures, brings a wealth of experience and
a deep passion for mountain exploration. As the founder of Clarens Extreme, Ollie
transformed a single whitewater rafting operation in the nearby town of Clarens into
a thriving adventure tourism company that continues to operate successfully today.
His extensive involvement in the adventure tourism industry has made him a
respected figure, known for his commitment to creating accessible and exhilarating
experiences for all.
Founding Member of “Friends of the Via Ferrata”
Ollie’s expertise shines in projects like “The Dragon’s Tale” Via Ferrata. As a key
member of the Friends of the Via Ferrata, he played an active role in developing
this premier climbing route, now one of the top activities offered by Thaba
Adventures. His dedication ensured that the Via Ferrata was built with precision and
a commitment to safety, making it accessible to a wider audience of adventurers.

Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge is owned by the local Batlokoa community. The lodge creates local jobs and buys from local suppliers. It also pays rent and a share of its profits to the aBatlokoa Foundation, the community’s own organisation.
Pride of Ownership: The Batlokoa community owns the lodge, and Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge (Pty) Ltd runs it commercially on their behalf. The community enthusiastically shares its breathtaking home with visitors from around the world. Thaba Adventures is a small mountain business. We train our own guides and employ local people, including freelance porters from the area.
